Disused Tube App

Our new App is out … today! Introducing Disused Tube.

There are over 50 old Tube stations in London, and we’ve listed them all; where they are, why they closed, what you can still see today – along with a Disused Tube map, audio descriptions for each one, and also two walking tour maps that will guide you if want to to hit the streets on your feet and go and find them yourself.

You can download the App here (it works on the iPhone as well as the iPad – on which it looks great) and learn about where London’s disused Tube stations are!

(With huge thanks to to Mark Noad for the exclusive design of the Abandoned Stations Map, have a look at his website for other alternative tube map designs.)

Articles about this also over on Londonist, and Metro Online too.

Oh, and London Reconnections has an extensive write-up, IanVisits with some lovely photos.and the BBC a piece on the commercial venture which is why we all got to go down there in the first place.

A complete set of photos from the video shoot is on Flickr here.

Inside Charing Cross and Clapham South

The London Transport Museum today announced that they are, for the first time ever, selling tickets for tours of the old abandoned Charing Cross station that was on the Jubilee Line, and to the tunnels at Clapham South – one of eight deep level tunnels that were built to be turned into a second ‘express’ Northern Line, which then never happened.

It runs on various dates throughout the summer – June and July (Charing Cross) and October (Clapham South) and tickets are quite pricey at £25 and £30, but we can easily see them being snapped up and rapidly selling out!

Charing Cross is here on the website, and Clapham South is here. But tickets don’t go on sale until this Friday – the 17th of April.

Disused, about to arrive

Whilst our previous post may – we admit – have been an April fool jape, we can honestly say that the Disused Tube app is tantalisingly close to being ready for release, and we expect it to hit the App store sometime this month in April …

From the cab

… because sometimes, the best place to take a picture of an abandoned Tube station (here – Osterley Park & Spring Grove) is from the cab of a train – taken with permission!

This is going into our ‘Abandoned Stations’ App which we’re currently working on, and will be released later this year …
